Lomdim (learners)

Lomdim (Learners): Adult Bar/Bat Mitzvah

In Israel, student-driver cars, buses and trucks are marked with a distinctive triangle and the letter “lamed,” the first letter of “lomdim.” We will be navigating and learning together and we’ll do our best to ensure a smooth ride!

Goals

  • Intellectual enrichment, emotional attachment and spiritual fulfillment through knowledge of and participation in Jewish life.

  • Understanding the why and how of ritual, whether at synagogue or at home, in private or in community.

  • Appreciating the breadth and depth of Jewish learning and lore, from the sublime to the absurd.

  • Acquiring facility with the Hebrew of liturgy and sacred literature.

  • Learning to share learning (through chevrutah study and presentation of divrei tefila/Torah; leading/reading in services).

Skills

  • Hebrew (and Torah) reading and prayer leading will be taught separately.

  • Frequency of sessions and content of study to be determined.
