Saturday, July 17 at 8:45 pm ▪ Maariv / Eicha (Lamentations) in person and on Zoom
On the ninth day of the Hebrew month Av, we commemorate the destruction (in 586 BCE and 70 CE) of the sacred Temples in Jerusalem and the beginning of 2,000 years of yearning for return to our Holy Land. The day begins with an evening service and the public reading by candlelight of “Lamentations,” the biblical book that elegizes the calamity of loss. A full fast day, it is traditional to not eat or drink, except as medically necessary, from 8:20 pm Saturday to 9:00 pm Sunday. The Saturday evening service will include some brief prayers and readings, or “kinot” (poetic laments), in English.
